Electra – Vancouver Condo – 989 Nelson

by Sebastian on December 22, 2008

The Electra is a 21 storey, 242 suite, condo tower in Downtown Vancouver. It was originally built as the headquarters for BC Hydro to commercial building requirements long before condo’s were a twinkle in the eye of Vancouver real estate. At the time of it’s construction, it was claimed to be the tallest building in the British Commonwealth (at 293 ft). In 1998 it was converted to residential condos.

Given it’s commercial origins, the Electra (989 Nelson) has some features not typically seen in other residential buildings in the Vancouver real estate market. For instance, the building has 9′ ceilings, wall-to-wall windows as well as rare (for Vancouver and in it’s price range) air-conditioning. Other features include large, same floor storage lockers, guest suites, free shared laundry on every floor, an exercise center, sauna and common room.
